After the Civil War, homosexual men and women, as well as transsexuals, were once again considered criminals, unlike in the Republican period. At that time homosexuals were dead, exiled, condemned and locked up in terrible prisons or inside the closet and terrified of being discovered. The Franco dictatorship was an absolutely repressive regime, which censored all sexually oriented materials and found homosexual authors inappropriate for Spain.
